The Tri-County chapter is about preserving the wild places in eastern Dane County, while maintaining local control. Dane County's population growth will put extreme pressure on those wild places that give us the quality of life we enjoy and would like our children to enjoy. We must take action now to preserve those wild places for generations to come.

Tri-County owns and is restoring 440 acres of wetlands adjacent to the 600 acre Deansville State Wildlife Area. The Wings area, like the State Wildlife Area is open to the public for walking, canoeing, bird watching and hunting. We have a scenic overlook on Berlin Road from which much of the wetland can be observed. Please go to the overlook at sunrise or sunset to observe wildlife and the awesome beauty of this wild place. We planted over 40 acres of new wildlife and food plots for all the wildlife, and are starting a project to restore the land to a self-sustaining wetland.

The members of Tri-County come from Dane, Jefferson, Columbia and Dodge counties. Our chapter is involved in numerous community projects including the Dane County Crane Count and annual pheasant count in the Waterloo wildlife Area. We award six area high school scholarships every year to youth going into teaching, natural resources, agriculture and veterinary science. We have supplied bird seed to Hospice Care and area nursing homes for the last 6 years. Each year we sponsor hunter education and youth hunts to keep the conservation ethic alive in the next generation. We want to thank Dean Duessler for his 20 bird pheasant hunt for 4 youths.

Besides merchandise donors, we had two groups and one business give us donations of money to help us support and promote our youth hunts. Glacial Drumlin (Sun Prairie) NWTF and Columbus Whitetails Unlimited donated $250 each to help our programs. In addition, Dr.'s Anderson and Arena of Waterloo also donated money to help our programs. Kurts Never In in Deerfield also donated a gun to be used in our youth hunts. Again, thanks sincerely.

The 350 members for Tri-County Wings and 4,200 state-wide members are working to set aside land for everyone to enjoy for future generations.
Johnson Creek High School student Kassidy Lemminger bagged the first turkey of the day at the annual Youth Turkey Hunt sponsored by Wings Over Wisconsin and Tom's Guns in Marshall on April 12-13, 2008. The event drew about 35 kids from across the state.
The chapter was honored to present service awards to 25 year board members.
