Our Chapter was founded in 1986. The following are some of our major projects.
Wings members planted over 14,000 trees this past season and moved nearly 400 from growing areas. We successfully burned over 470 acres of prairie to support new habitat and growth. Members planted 150 acres of corn, 75 acres of sunflowers and 50 acres of sorghum this spring for winter food plots.
Our birdseed program flourished again this year. We provided 2 ton of seed to nursing homes and child daycare centers throughout the counties.
Our chapter awarded a scholarship to a Mineral Point youth enrolled in an environmental science program.
We participated again this year in the Iowa County Gun Locks for Youth Program.
Some of our future projects include a 16 year lease agreement with Iowa County for the lease of 100 acres near Bloomfield Manor to be used for planting prairie grasses and food plots and other recreational uses.
We will also be working with the Pecatonica River Enhancement project to clean out log jams and debrie to allow better access for fishermen, hunters and canoes.
Our chapter also supports the Outdoor Wish Program which allows children with a life-threatening illness to experience an outdoor adventure in Wisconsin.
